Handset manufacturers seek tax holidays and subsidies in the Budget 2015-16
The local handset manufacturers including Karbonn, Micromax, Videocon and Maxx Mobiles have sought tax holidays and subsidies in the upcoming Budget 2015-16 to promote domestic manufacturing in the country. According to these companies, though India is one of the fastest growing mobile phone markets in the world, it still lags behind China as most of the manufacturers get their devices made in China. Therefore, it is necessary for the government to make competitive policies in the telecom manufacturing segment.
The companies added that the indigenous products will help the country realise the vision of initiatives like ‘Digital India’ and ‘Make in India’. Also, the domestic manufacturers have emphasised that friendly manufacturing policies will have collateral benefits like greater employment opportunities, higher standard of quality and better pricing of telecom products.
